epic enchants is a great site for going over all the enchants in the game. it is not limited to just the enchanting recipes, it also includes all the other professions, as well as the various rep required enchants.
wow gem finder
i know i have posted this here before, however, it is absolutely worth mentioning again. i have yet to see a better site dedicated to wow gems.
i dont know to many people who dont use this site for help with there professions. it is incredibly detailed for every profession.
here’s some information on how each of the currencies will be converted in the next content patch. keep in mind these values may change, and they can get a bit math heavy. just know that our intent is to appropriately value each mark and provide a conversion we feel is fair.
the following items are immediately converted to gold:
- emblem of heroism = 5.5 gold each
- emblem of valor = 5.5 gold each
- emblem of conquest = 5.5 gold each
- badge of justice = 1.833 gold each
your new honor points total will be the sum of the following amounts:
- old honor * 0.024
- old arena points * 0.85
- battleground mark of honor * 2.976
- wintergrasp mark of honor * 19.08
- stone keeper shard * 1.6
- venture coin * 3
- spirit shard * 1
your justice points total will be equal to (emblems of triumph + emblems of frost ) * 11.58
again, the softcap for both honor and justice conversions is 4000 points. this means that if a character converts to above 4,000 points, it will not be possible for them to earn more until they fall below the 4,000 cap.
a hardcap will be implemented in a following patch before cataclysm’s release. at that time, any excess points above 4,000 will be converted as follows:
- honor points above 4,000 are converted to gold at a rate of 35 silver per point of honor.
- justice points above 4,000 are converted to gold at a rate of 47.5 silver per point of justice.
– update –
i saw on this wow forum a blizzard tech support member said that a 3.3.5a patch should be out in the near future. hopefully this fixes the connectivity issues.

with the release of the new patch there has been a host of issues with logging onto world of warcraft using wine.
here is some brief system specs for my work pc:
mike@darkstar:~$ uname -a
Linux darkstar 184.108.40.206-smp #2 SMP Sat May 1 00:26:54 CDT 2010 i686 Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8200 @ 2.33GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux
mike@darkstar:~$ wine --version
here is some brief system specs for my home pc:
mike@darkstar:~$ uname -a
Linux darkstar 220.127.116.11-map-03-2010 #2 SMP Tue Mar 16 12:15:50 EDT 2010 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4000+ AuthenticAMD GNU/Linux
mike@darkstar:~$ wine --version
on my home pc, i do not have as many issues logging into wow as my work pc, the primary difference being the kernel version. i had read on several forums that the issue could be related to network stacking in the 2.6.33 kernel. on some of the forums linked above, they suggested either regressing wine or regressing the kernel to an earlier version that 2.6.33 kernel. i am not terribly interested in regressing my kernel and i have tried upgrading wine. the next thing is to try an older version of wine and see how that goes. i will try this when i get into work tomorrow or on wednesday. i also found several good ideas here and will have to try them tomorrow when i go into work.
the new raid ruby sanctum was released last night. i had a chance to run this with my guild last night. we did not manage to down halion, however, we did get into phase 3. (due to time constraints we were unable to finish)
make sure your tanks have at least 31k+ armor. i have 34.8k armor on my druid and i was getting hit fairly hard.
you need a decent amount of heals and dps for the trash mobs. several of them can hit the tank for a decent amount of damage. make sure your raid heals are awesome, as the group will be taking extensive damage if they are not paying attention.
with the trash mobs, it is important to kill the invokers first and make sure you turn the assaulters away from the raid. i found it was best to have 1 tank take the invokers and the other tank take the assaulters and stay about 15 yards apart. make sure the dps focuses on the invokers and interrupts their spellcasts!
the mobs that have the commanders in them. make sure 1 tank taunts only the commander while the other tank takes the rest of the mob. dps should focus on burning down the commander first and then the remainder of the mob.
the 3 generals are a fairly easy encounter, assuming everyone pays attention to their debuffs, and moves when they need too.
baltharus the warborn
tank: MT face boss away from raid; OT pick up clone when it spawns at roughly 50%
dps: tunnel the boss
heals: heavy raid heals
basically a tank-n-spank. at 50% he will spawn a clone of himself, make sure the OT picks up the add fast and moves at least 15 yards from the MT in order to prevent getting enervating brand from stacking to much and to fast.
also, watch out for blade tempest. it hurts. bad.
tank: MT face boss away from raid; OT taunt after MT gets 2 stacks of cleave
dps: burn the boss; drop the boss and burn down the adds when they spawn
heals: have 1 healer focus on the tanks at all times and the other healer heavy raid heals
this boss will cleave. while tanking this, i noticed it was easier to have the tanks taunt off each other after 2 stacks. he also does intimidating roar, if you have a shaman in the group, make sure that a tremor totem is down. adds will also spawn throughout the course of the fight. dont bother having a tank pick them up, have your dps slow them and burn them out.
tank: face boss away from raid
dps: burn the boss; stay behind her at all times!
heals: heavy raid heals, when she flies into the air, make sure you have all your HoTs up
make sure the dps is all a fair distance away from the tanks. i found it was easier to have all the dps and heals stack together and avoid the flame breath. during the encounter, 2 people will get conflaguration. this is marked by a red arrow over the affected players head. make sure they run AWAY from the raid and not into the water, otherwise it could cause a wipe.
halion has 3 phases. remember at all times that halion is a dragon, do not stand in front of her or you will get hit by the flame breath and do not stand behind her or you will get hit by the tail lash. the best approach (like any dragon) is to stand off to the side, avoid the fire and most of all PAY ATTENTION!
she will also cast a debuff on some characters in the raid. fiery combustion, this can be decursed or cleansed, however, if it is removed to early it will detonate and more than likely cause a wipe. when it does detonate the player will be knocked back. make sure you run AWAY from the raid if you get this debuff and then call out for a cleanse when you are far enough away from the raid group.
she will also cast meteor strike periodically throughout this phase, you will see on the ground an orange circle, obviously RUN AWAY!
at 75% health she will vanish and everyone except for 1 tank and 1 healer should head into the void portal. at this point there will be constant AoE damage to the raid.
also at periodic times she will cast twilight cutter this causes 2 orbs will spawn that arc beams to her, the tank will need to turn her so that the raid can move out of the way of these beams and get 1-shot. while the dps is avoiding the beams they also need to not get caught in the cleave or flame breath while at the same time continuing to dps her down.
make sure the dps follow the tank when she is being turned, otherwise you will be hit by the beam and be killed instantly.
at 50% health halion will simultaneously exist in both the real world and in the twilight realm. she gains a stat called corporeality. you need to send 1 tank, 1 heals and a few dps over to the real world and leave the remainder in the twilight realm. this allows you to balance your dps between the realms. the reason for this is because if you do more damage in the real world, she will become less corporeal, doing more damage and healing in the twilight realm and vice versa.
during phase 3, those in the real world will deal with phase 1 mechanics and those inside the twilight realm will deal with phase 2 mechanics.
note – this strategy will change over time as i develop a better idea of the boss fight
i just tried to log on. on the board to the right of the log in page, it said there would be another update at 4p pacific.
this site is awesome. you can filter through the various colors of gems as well as the stats they provide.
i have been using this to compare gem stats and find which ones will provide stat optimization (stat optimization via gems is something i will touch on in a future post)
a guild i usually run with invited me to heal icc last night. so i figured i would go. i was only raid healing so it wasn’t to intensive. well, it turned out i was the only resto druid there, then to top it off, i was the only leather wearer. sure there was a hunter and a shaman, but, they didn’t need any leather gear. so….here is what i got.
now for the expensive endeavor of putting gems and enchants on all the gear. time to start farming more gold.
