change faction/race in wow? awesome
i have long wondered if blizzard was ever going to implement the ability to change an alliance character to a horde character or vice versa.
wow forums talking about the change. note it is a sticky!!
you can currently change your character name, that’s a quick change on the database.
you can currently change the sex of you character, another quick change in the database, linked to the graphical representation of your character – a little more complex than a name change.
now, for race and faction changes….wow. here is what would have to be changed –
alliance and horde have different major cities and factions you can raise honor with. ALL of this would have to be changed over to the equivalent opposing side. for example, i want to change my human mage into an undead mage. so all of my rep gained for the major alliance factions (darnassus, ironforge, stormwind, etc) would have to be change to its horde counterpart (orgrimaar. thunder bluff, undercity, etc). then you have to consider all the other factions.
then there is the achievement system to consider. there are a lot of racial and faction specific achievements you can obtain on your characters.
and of course, all the items people accrue throughout the game and quests completed. the list goes on.
this would mean blizzard would have a massive amount of work to do in order to change a character over “to the other side”.
all in all, i hope this becomes a reality soon. i really hate playing alliance.
epic wintergrasp
i played wintergrasp the other day. it was insane. we were on defense, which is almost impossible to win in the first place (unless you have a solid coordinated team, which we did have this time). we ended up winning and i got the achievement against all odds, 102 kills, 13307 honor, and cashed in 3 quests, resulting in 35+ gold and 30 stone keepers shards.

i decided to hop on wow this morning and play around. here are the screenshots showing my fps. i am ranging an average of 30-35fps. sometimes it will spike at 60+ depending on what i am doing.
the minimap is still white, but this appears to be a common problem with wow and ati.

raising rep with the kalu’ak
this is my first wow post in awhile. for good reason, i have been busy configuring and setting up my new laptop, now that video and sound are in good working order i can play wow rather nicely in slackware. its a lot better and smoother than in windows.
i have been trying to raise my rep with the kalu’ak. i did all the quests relating to the kaluak in northrend and now i am working on trying to do the dailies every day.
my current rep is 10306 / 21000. at 550 per quest its going to take awhile to get exalted. however, i really want the mastercraft kalu’ak fishing pole.
so, here are the dailies that you can do after you have exhausted all the other quests in northrend.
planning for the future
this one is rather easy and a little messed up. you basically steal children from their parents and return them to the kalu’ak. its sadistic and odd, but the fishing pole is just to damn cool to pass up. ((you can obtain the quest from trapper mau’i at moa’ki harbor in dragonblight. he is right outside the inn.)) after you get the quest just head north and you will see the snowfall glade pups around little huts. just click on them to pick them up.
preparing for the worst
you get this quest from utaik in kaskala in the borean tundra. this quest requires you run around and collect 8 kaskala supplies. these are found south east of the quest giver and are mostly around the huts and buildings.
the way to his heart…
this quest is the hardest out of the 3 dailies. you get this quest from anuniaq in kamagua in howling fjord. you get anuniaq’s net and you have to head to the south east part of the island and north of scalawag point. in the waters between the two island there will be schools of tasty reef fish, use the net in those and you will catch 3-5 of the fish. then head over to the reef bulls and throw a tasty reef fish at it and it will follow you, then head over to the reef cows, throwing the tasty reef fish at the reef bull (it will take 4+ to get the reef bull over to the reef cow). another way to do it is attack one of the reef bulls and kite him over towards the reef cows and then throw a tasty reef fish at him when your close.

i edited the /etc/modprobe.d/sound file, no i do not have a toshiba laptop (and am fully aware), however, after reading through /usr/src/linux/Documentation/sound/alsa/ALSA-Configuration.txt, i found that i could change the model= parameter to other models for testing. (some did break sound completely).

i ran wow in crossover and got 28+ fps in the world environment. inside of dalaran (the busiest major city) i was getting 10-12+ fps

i had to regress my kernel from 2.6.29 to 2.6.27. then had to recompile and install the latest ati drivers.
